    Pure genius

Analog has solved the age old problem and speaker owners fear of THE WATER RING. Porch and floor paint! Brillant, absolutely brilliant! Now on that hot summer day you can pull a beer directly from the ice chest, take a swig, and set it directly ON TOP OF THE SPEAKER AND NOT WORRY ABOUT A WATER RING. Hats of to Analog!

    Done with the filler...

Finished off the Bondo with a little wood filler since it's easier to work with. Here's an example of the corners I was able to produce. I figger they'll last about as long as it takes to move them once, but WTF, at least they'll start out looking reasonably respectable. Also came home with the oil based primer/sealer as shown on the recommendation of the paint fellow. Oil based paint is a PITA, but hopefully I can get it applied in one session, and then just throw away the roller.

I discovered another fly in the ointment. Looks like the damn particle board has swelled where the woofer should sit against the mounting board, producing a noticeable bulge.

Anyone have any idea what I can do about this?

I don't recall if I've used Cover Stain, or not. I'd try to get it done in one shot too.

On the particle board, can you use some 80-grit sandpaper to knock it down? Is the swelling more than the gasket on the woofer will compensate for?

I scrape it down with a paint scraper/Surform file/whatever, seal it with exterior wood glue and smooth it out either by skimming on acrylic latex caulk or easy to sand wood putty depending on the app.

You can save your used rollers by wrapping them tightly in aluminum foil or saran wrap or even a grocery plastic bag. To save paint in the can, place a bunch of saran wrap down onto the paint surface to keep it from drying out.

Glad you went with the oil based primer/sealer and not the water based. That should do the job nicely. Agreed -- definitely not worth cleaning a roller cover with paint thinner. Might even want to wear gloves if you have a (disposable) pair handy--oil primers are harder to get off your skin than oil paints.....

Dunno! I think there has been discussion about it somewhere. Maybe search on textured or spatter.

All (my) 828 cabs are like that, as were 8256 cabs I've seen. I peg the 828's as ca. ~1983. Just a ball park fig.

    Re: Done with the filler...

This has always been my choice/recommendation for general painting of wood products, but recently, a painting contractor neighbor gave me some Sherwin Williams SuperPaint exterior acrylic latex with some sort of resin technology to prime at least some of my exterior repairs. After just a single brush coat on some replaced wood trim, corner, etc. boards, fiber and cement coated siding as well as some scraped to bare wood + putty and/or caulked existing boards, fiberboard siding that was salvageable, it's made a convert out of me.

Flows out real nice and sets reasonably quick even in 40 deg, overcast weather and on a couple of occasions with rain pelting it overnight. A hard freeze will tell the tale though.

Yes Sherwin Williams, MAB,and Benjamin Moore paints are some of the Best paints you can get IMO ! I've done my share of house painting.Used to do it for a living.Nobody likes to paint.Oil/alkyd paint is a PIA but it is by far the best covering you can do.Once you have the oil-based primer applied and dry.You can go to the latex.Rollers go in the trash. But my $20-30 brushes get the thinner treatment WRT cleaning.

I had to Google MAB, as I've never heard of them. Wikipedia says that they were regional, so it's possible we didn't have it in MI. They were purchased by SW a few years ago.
